“Teaching is about taking things apart; writing is about putting things together.” -Toni Morrison

Teaching

I am a guest lecturer/ teacher and have delivered discrete events, masterclasses and talks in institutions such as RADA (study of Gurpreet Bhatti’s play Khandan in which I had played the matriarch Jeeto), SOAS University (masterclass/demonstration of my verbatim practice), Westminster University (talk on my play Child of the Divide). My annual contributions to the MA/MFA Theatre Directing course at East 15, have included as Module Leader heading up the Artistic Director module and as a one-off workshop leader. As a dramaturg, I have supported students on the Goldsmiths College MA in writing/dramaturgy.

The unifying theme to my approach is encouraging a diverse cohort of students to bring their full selves into the room and to have agency in curating both the content and context of their art. My experience of curating my own voice and self-producing (mostly out of necessity) resonates with young people’s need to take charge of their own destinies.

“...You have to maintain a fine balance between hope and despair. In the end it’s all a question of balance.” ― Rohinton Mistry, writer A Fine Balance.

What People Are Saying

“Sudha has made terrific contributions to the MA/MFA Theatre Directing course at East 15. She has developed a series of unique frameworks that enable emergent artists to understand their own artistic voice in relation to the cultural environments they have evolved in and those that they will practice in. She is supportive, thought-provoking, wise, and fun”

— Matthew Lloyd, Senior lecturer East 15 Acting School

“It was very insightful to have a staff dramaturge of colour help me with my play, especially since we are both women of colour and could analyse the play through a framework of lived experience.”
